Aquaculture NORCE

October 15, 2024, 12:30-16:30; NORCE, Odfjell’s meeting room (Nygårdsgaten 112, 5008, Bergen)

Registration fee: Free

In the framework of the “BlueRemediomics” project, NORCE in  collaboration with project partners from the University of Aberdeen (Scotland), CNRS  (France), Leitat (Spain), and Lerøy (Norway), is organizing a workshop on “Norwegian Salmon  Aquaculture” to promote a science-to-policy and ethics dialogue with local scientists,  policymakers, and other stakeholders.

This “Town Hall” workshop will explore policy and  ethics issues related to Norwegian aquaculture, applying the concept of “Do No Significant  Harm”, with a focus on innovation in aquaculture as an environmental service and the  implications of research to enable sourcing 50 % of animal protein from farmed fish by 2050 for human consumption.

The workshop will discuss the challenges faced related to the ethical  and environmental impacts (e.g., pollution, fish health and welfare, sustainable feeds) of Norwegian aquaculture and will search for innovative solutions and policy measures to tackle  them. This event provides an excellent opportunity for citizen organizations and other  stakeholders to share their insight and expertise on the local production systems, their  interactions with the natural environments, and the challenges they face.
