Abbe Brown, a BlueRemediomics partner from the University of Aberdeen, has recently publishedan article in Les Nouvelles titled “Balancing Innovation and Fair Sharing: Practical Options for IP Licensing and Benefit Sharing.”
The article showcases resources developed through the BlueRemediomics project to support intellectual property (IP) owners in promoting equitable access to, and fair distribution of, benefits arising from new products derived from the marine microbiome. While these materials are tailored to this context, they are also applicable across a wide range of sectors. They include the Policy Brief “Balancing Innovation and Fair Sharing: Practical Options for IP Licensing and Benefit Sharing” along with complementary guidance documents.
Although many IP owners prioritise maximising commercial returns, the article outlines alternative approaches that can help balance innovation with fairer benefit-sharing practices.
