Join ISME in Cape Town, 18 – 23 August 2024!

The 19th International Symposium on Microbial Ecology (ISME) is taking place in Cape Town South Africa from the 18th – 23rd of August 2024.

Organised by the International Society for Microbial Ecology, a non-profit association in the field of Microbial Ecology, it will focus on topics such as: 

  • Advances in terrestrial systems ecology
  • Animal microbiomes
  • Axes of microbial ecology and climate change: progress and priorities
  • Ecology and evolution
  • Marine microbial ecology and much more. 

Proposals for workshops are open from the 5th of June 2023 up until the 14th of August 2023! The ISME19 (Local) Organizing Committee intends to host several workshops before ISME19, especially focused on “cutting-edge” methods used in microbial ecology.

The Workshops may take place in the week before (12 – 18 August 2024) or after (25 – 29 August 2024) the symposium. Proposals for Workshops should be submitted to ISME19 Organizing Committee by e-mail via events@isme-microbes.org.

The first Keynote Speakers for this event have already been announced. Jill Banfield, University of California, Berkeley, USA, will give the first Keynote Lecture of the symposium. She will be joined on the other days by fellow Keynote Speakers Simonetta Gribaldo, Institut Pasteur, France, and Osvaldo Ulloa, Universidad de Concepción, Chile. Ed DeLong, University of Hawai’i, Manoa, USA, will be giving a Bird’s Eye View Presentation.
